There are many Merkaba / Flower of Life images available on the web, as a simple google image search reveals. I was particularil;y attracted to the above ( original url), because it seems to nicely represent the theme of higher spiritual mind, or higher Nous (Spiritual Mind in Sri Aurobindo's philosophy (e.g. in The Life Divine). This is the state that is beyond nonduality (Sri Aurobindo refers to three substages here, Higher mind, Illumined Mind, and Intuitive Mind). In keeping with the The Mother's description of the higher mind colours as light blue, I selected an image with that colour predominant. A yellow, or perhaps a gold, colour would refer to the highest levels here (corresponding to Divine Intuition). The spheres of Light might be taken to represent higher spiritual hierarchies, and perhaps also equivalent degrees of realisation and transformation.
Higher Realisation represents the preliminary stages of Integral Transformation. These are stages of Realisation beyond even conventional Realization or Enlightenment. In this context, Higher Realisation here to refer to the realisation of Reality in Itself, that follows after nonduality. In other words, this is an insight into Reality or Supreme Self-Nature that is even more profound than conventional Realization. It almost becomes meaningless to talk about these subjects, because these are states so far beyond dualistic, holistic, and even conventional esoteric consciousness.
This also goes beyond the conventional realisation of the ineffable nondual Real as the ultimate Reality, as almost universally taught by Perennialism, Transpersonal Psychology, New Paradigm/New Age Post-Materialism, Popular Gurus, Neo-Advaita, secular Integralism, and many other contemporary New Consciousness movements.
This is not to say that such Realizers do not attain these higher states, as many obviously do. Some, even "Intermediate Zone" realizers likeAdi Da and Mother Meera, did or do seem to engage in drawing down the higher Light, Power, and Truth. In the case of some, like Adi Da and Meher Baba, it seems that the power of these higher Realizations is so great that they end up identifying with the descending Light and considering that they are God. It can be assumed however that other Lightworkers have greater purity and humility; indeed the stature of a Lightworker or a Realizer can be determined by their refusal to bignote themselves (refer to themselves as God, Enlightened Guru, Ascended Master, World teacher, Avatar, etc.). Those who do make such Inflated claims may still be in touch with these higher Realizations, but they may not be in a position to be a pure channel for them (however a distinction can be made between Da, who practiced abusive behaviour, and Meher Baba, who to my knowledge never did)
Higher Realisation therefore, or Higher Nous (to give a metaphysical term for the corresponding hypostasis) refers to the Reality beyond nondualy Absolute, but not yet at the stage of Godhead. It is therefiore the beginning of Divinization and of transformation of the world. But for complete Transformation it is necessary to go even beyond this stage.
The above is a diagram, which I drew back in May 2008 (it seems much longer ago!) shows aspects of Higher Realisation, corresponding to what I at at one time called the "Revelatory Absolute". This is because I wanted to, and still want to, get away from Sri Aurobindo's terms like Higher Mind etc, which are confusing and easily misinterpreted (see this diagram for a typical misinterpretation). I'm still looking around for decent terminology. For now, "Revelatory Absolute" can be use dto refer to the Reality that is Higher Realisation.
In the above diagram, which is inspired in part by Kashmir Shaivism, there are the various aspects of Realisation, and beyond that even further experiences. Those who attain ordinary Realisation attain one type or aspect or poise of the Supreme, e.f. Supreme Self, or God-Realisation. But through Integral Realisation these various experiences and attainments are harmonised in even great Realisation and Transformation.
The best descrcription of Higher Realisation - or at least the one taht is most meaningful to me, is Sri Aurobindo's descriptions of what he calls Higher mind, Illumined Mind, Intuitive Mind. Although others may have also attained these levels, Sri Aurobindo is the one who describes them with most detail. However, his use of the word mind in this context can be confusion, as this Realisation is not just higher mind but higher mind that is transparent (egoless) to the Supreme Reality, and thus providing progressively more Integral insights and transformation.
Other examples of this type of Realisation might be found in Kashmir Shaivism, with reference to cosmic states beyond the state of ordinary liberation, referred to as the Shanti-kala ("Division of Reality pertaining to supreme Peace") or Shuddha ("Pure" =Divine) principles. Here the state of Cosmic Consciousness is one in which the "I" or aham is a cosmic godhead and the "that" or idam (object) is the entire universe.
As yet, these states have never been realised collectively. However Sri Aurobindo writes in the Life Divine (page ref to be added) that with the Supramental descent and transformation, there is the possibility of various intermediate stages pertaining to Higher, Illumined, and Intuitive Mind (or Realisation).
