As Salaam Alaikum. The answer to your question can be found quite easily though inspecting the history of the Knights Templar. Between 1118 and 1128 the ruins of the Temple mount were desecrated by the founders of this elitist organization. The scrolls that they removed from the Temple were buried before the fall of Jerusalem in 69-70 a.d. by "Essene" revolutionaries. The knowledge that they have composed their so-called "secret rituals" of is stolen knowledge.
Similarly, it is quite true that they have parallel stories regarding "the Green Man." Furthermore, many of the churches and Cathedrals that were built by these ancestors of modern Freemasonry did bear the supposed likeness of the "Green Man" in the manner in which you speak. The Chapel at Rossyln, that was built centuries later, (after the Templar exile from France) does indeed have the carving of this vegetative man upon its walls.
