Does anybody have any information on what the Mother said concerning Sai Baba?
It is reported by Jyotipriya, founder of the East West Cultural Center, that she met
Mother after meeting Sai Baba and showed her a ring which Mother said was materialized. Jyotipriya asked Mother about Sai Baba and said, "One spiritual teacher does not comment on another".
current note by MAK: the above statement was certainly not by the Mother; anyone who has read her works knows that she doesnt pussyfoot around and spoeak with suchg unnecssary restraint Does
Sai Baba is reported to have said referring to
Sri Aurobindo, "I am for the masses, but Sri Aurobindo is the guru's guru."
I have heard this same story. It was told to me some 17-odd years
ago. I was told it by a rather eccentric fellow by the name of
Moshe
Kroy, who was my lecturer at La Trobe University (Melbourne Australia),
and a devotee of Sai Baba. Moshe introduced me to Sai Baba,
and I introduced him to Sri Aurobindo and the Mother (whom he acknowledged
although he always preferred Sai Baba). This is what he told me:
A devotee of Sri Aurobindo and Sai Baba (the devotee's name may have
been mentioned by I don't remember, it being a while ago) had an audience
with Sai Baba. He asked "Baba, how can there be two avatars (incarnate
at more or less the same time)? Why is mankind so blessed?"
Sai Baba replied "I am the avatar (or guru) of the many; Sri Aurobindo
is the avatar (or guru) of the few"
On another occaision Moshe told me that when asked about the Mother,
Sai Baba said "the Mother attained the highest state of consciousness (or
some words to that effect) of any being in the entire Universe."

Of course I've come a long way since there, since a lot about Sai Baba - for example the matter of his birthday - is known to be apart of SSB's claim to get self-importance for himself by appeal to Sri Aurobindo.
In March 2008, reading through the Agenda, I discovered what The Mother had actually said regarding Sai Baba, and it is quite intriging.
Unfortunately I didn't note down the exact text (it was from the late 1960s or 1970); when I find it I will quote it here. But basically refernce is made to a certain "S. B." who can materialise objects. Someone from the Aurobindo Ashram had seen him and was quite impressed. Satprem, judgmental as ever, was convinced that these sort of things partain to use of inferior entities of the lowest vital plane. The Mother herself is more positive, simply referring to this as an example of powers of the vital (=astral or orectic) plane. From the heresay she had received, she clearly considered Sai Baba's apports authentic. This is not unusual when one considers that she had witnessed Madame Theon performing miracles equal to and even greater than those of Sai Baba.
