In The European for July 26 '91, the "Message of he Week" showed the supposed French 'Cosmic Messiah' Lord Hamsah Manarah, a former civil servant in France's finance ministry called Gilbert Bourdin (1923-1998).
Ten kms from Castellane in the Alps of Haute Provence this self-appointed reincarnation of Christ, Buddha, Napoleon and Pythagoras' has an ashram with huge statues of himself and his incarnations. He had 40 monks/nuns and about 100 lay followers - and claims 1,000 worldwide. The statues at this "Holy City of Mandar Om" include the tallest Buddha in Europe (21 m.) and a 33-metre effigy of himself. He is to save humanity from self-destruction... etc. The huge statues at his ashram were dynamited late in 2001 by a French Government decision (see http://www.rickross.com/reference/aumism/aumism3.html).
