Yakov Leib haKohain
Yakov Leib haKohain is the Hebrew birth-name of the Jewish poet, author,
teacher and Sabbatian Kabbalist, Lawrence G. Corey, Ph.D. who also was
given the names John-Francis, Aziz Mehemed Effendi and Kali Dass upon his
ritual conversions, as a Sabbatian Jew,
to the Catholic Church,
Islam
and Vedanta, respectively. He holds
a doctorate in Jungian Studies
and Comparative Religion, and his poetry and essays have appeared in literary
magazines and scholarly journals such as Midstream,
Evergreen Review, Beloit Poetry Journal, The Catholic Critic, Dor
L'Dor: Journal of the World Jewish Bible Society of Jerusalem, The

of Kabbalah: Journal for the Study of Jewish Mystical Texts. Before
his retirement in 1992, he was scholar-in-residence, for over twenty years,
at the Center for Transpersonal Studies of Hermosa Beach, California -
during which time he was a frequent guest lecturer at the South Bay Kehilla
(a covertly Sabbatian Jewish congregation), The Vedanta Society of Southern
California, and the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles. He is now
the founder and moderator of the Donmeh of the
Internet, a world-wide virtual community of over 300 scholars and lay-people
dedicated to the teaching, learning and practice of 16th century Lurianic
Kabbalah as reconfigured in the 17th century by the Jewish Messiah
and Avatar, Sabbatai Zevi and his prophet and chief exegete, Nathan of Gaza.
