Tai Chi, Yin and Yang

by

James Lee

In the ancient version of the Yi Jing it was stated: "Yin-Yang is Tai Chi and Tai Chi is Yin-Yang."

Nobody knew what it means because it is so ancient. Now, we have modern version of the Yi Jing. It is in ordinary everyday language so people can understand it.

First of all, let us define what Tai Chi means. In Chinese, Tai means very and Chi means extreme. Now we can say Yin-Yang is very extreme and very extreme is Yin-Yang.

The Yin is one extreme and the Yang is the opposite extreme of Yin. Now, we have defined two extremes. Therefore, if you are in the Yin state, you are in the Tai Chi state of Yin. If you are in the Yang state, you are in the Tai Chi state of Yang. Furthermore, if you are in between the Yin and the Yang states, you are in a changing state.

During the changing phase, if you started in the Yin state, you will be changing toward the Yang state. On the other hand, if you started in Yang state, you will be changing toward the Yin state. What I am saYing is you changing from the worse to the best and vice versa.

To give some examples:

If you are poor (Yin) at first and become rich (Yang) later. Things are not going well with you in the later years and filed bankruptcy (Yin). Then, you are considered changing from worse to best and vice versa.

Presently you are in good health, so you are considered in the best state (Yang). All of a sudden you became ill, so you are considered in the worse state (Yin). Then, you become well again (Yang). Thus, you are considered changing from better to worse and vice versa.

If you are very strong, you can lift 200 pounds. At the moment you are lifting the weights, you are in the strongest state (Yang). When you become weakened because of holding the weights for too long, you must put the weights down. Then, you are in the weakest state (Yin).

If you are in a wrong position, you are in a Yin state; and if you are in the right position, you are in a Yang state.

The police are considered Yang and a theft is considered Yin. The indication of contrast between good and evil.
