A Forum for discussions about the future; topics include (in no particular order) a) Science Fiction
b) Technophilia vs Ludditism in Sci Fi and contemporary culture c) Space Colonization d) Deep Time e) Ecology and environmentalism (an ethic of preserving and nurturing biological and genomal diversity in "Greening the Galaxy") f) Transhumanism and transhuman and extropian themes g) Positive and Integral Directions for the Future h) Hard sciences, psychology, social and behavioural science, etc i) Spirituality, Metaphysics and Mysticism j) Emergent Evolution In seeking to understand in an integral way what the future may be like, Future Visions looks at various questions that arise from the junction of metaphysics, hard science, and posthumanism. Some questions raised might be - What is the future of humanity and life on Earth? Is the purpose of Gaia to reproduce and spread biosphers throughout the universe? Would uploads and copies have a soul? Do cyborg augments affect the flow of ch'i/ki energy? How does the Aurobindonian concept of Supramentalisation relate to Transhumanist Singularity, if at all? And how does it all fit together anyway? Some suggested basic organizational goals. 1) Be emergent
2) Be participatory 3) Explore. 4) Have fun. 5) Keep it managable. In keeping with the title, there will be descriptions of what an orwood forest might be like, or life in a nanotopia, or how a starwhisp can carry passangers in full virch. Contributions are welcome, provided they are based on realistic science and tech. |
Update: in view of other commitments, I have not been able to put any input into Future Visions at this time (except for an eccentric articlke I'm writing)
Note: the Future Visions project has been replaced by Transhuman Universes - Beyond the Well (tentative working title), a new wiki project, combining diamond hard advanced but realistic technology, transhumanism, ideas from esotericism, mysticism and philosophy, and quality science fiction concepts and imaginative speculation. Anyone who wants to is welcome to join and contribute, provided they respect the setting. The original setting is near future, but there are no fixed limits on where people wish to take the setting. (work in progress)
