Parameters Project
A look at the underlying behind land use practices in Australia
With few exceptions the Australian rural landscape is degenerating at an alarming rate. To a some extent we have chosen to ignore this problem because there are no workable solutions in sight.
The underlying assumptions and word patterns we use to think about and discuss land use patterns in Australia are often inadequate, inappropriate or flawed.
Some professional have considered the parameters that underlay their areas of expertise. Many have found it difficult or inappropriate to express their thoughts and feeling.
We have commenced a program to interview individuals in various fields who can contribute to useful ideas and insights to land use systems in Australia.
We are working to explore the parameters associated with soils, water, crops, weeds, forestry, economics, financing, general geographic systems ...
We are not even beginning to consider working towards solutions. We believe that we are along way from even understanding the problems associated with our current rural situation in Australia. We suspect that solutions will require a complex mix of variables supported by many disciplines.
Our aim is to create a forum we people can - enormously if they wish - express ideas that are unfashionable and perhaps professionally uncomfortable.
Our technique.
We tape and transcribe the gust of the recorded conversation. We,
naturally, return the transcript to the interviewee for vetting.
Whenever possible we also take photographs and shoot
videos relevant to
the topic under discussion.
All
material is being prepared for a web site. In time, this will grow in
both size and complexity.
The site is being designed as a forum and as an educational resource.
